The Importance of the Antioxidants in Green Tea

11 Feb

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a tropical plant that comes from India and Indonesia, where it has been cultivated for over 5,000 years. Its orange color, ginger aroma and bitter taste make it a popular spice and a main ingredient in curry dishes.

It has been used for medicinal purposes in China and India for thousands of years, which have been proven in many studies around the world.

Read on to find out more about turmeric and its benefits, and how to easily grow it in your home in containers.

What are the Health Benefits of Turmeric?

Turmeric has a multitude of host benefits, such as:

  • Anti-inflammatory properties
  • Toothache treatment
  • Urinary tract infections remedy
  • Stops flatulence
  • Lowers menstrual discomfort
  • Stops colic
  • Prevents certain types of cancers, such as  stomach, liver, breast and lung
  • Cancer prevention

How to Grow Turmeric in Containers

Growing turmeric in your house allows you to eat organic and fresh produce, while lowering expensive store costs. Turmeric grows like a weed that can end up being 3 or 4 feet tall, but all it needs is a sunny spot and a fairly large container to thrive. It grows best in humid and warm environments; if you live in a cold part of the country, bring it inside during wintertime and monitor your indoor temperature or consider growing turmeric in a greenhouse.

It’s best to plant turmeric in early winter if it’s going outside, or anytime indoors. Grow turmeric from rhizomes, which you can find at many supermarkets, Indian stores or online.

Allow the rhizomes to sprout in small containers by filling them with organic, neutral and well-drained soil, covering them in plastic bags, watering, and leaving them in weather of up to 95 degrees.

Once the rhizomes sprout, take off the plastic and put them next to a sunny place. Consider purchasing a heat meat if your indoor temperature is under 77 degrees. Keep the soil moist and mist the leaves daily to increase humidity.

Once the plants grow to be at least 6 inches tall, move them to 14 to 18 inch pots, and lower the temperature of the heat mat gradually to 68 degrees. You can move them outside if weather permits, watering as needed to keep the soil moist.

To facilitate growth, add fertilizer, but first educate yourself about the potential dangers of fertilizer here.

To lower your fertilizer use by up to half, add a small amount of PlantCatalyst®. Our proven and effective agricultural formula works with fertilizer to help the plants absorb more nutrients and eliminate more waste! Plus, because you are using only half of the required amount of fertilizer, you will save money!

Familiarize yourself with the great benefits of PlantCatalyst®, which have been proven in study after study in professional growth houses and independent labs, such as:

  • Larger and/or greener plants
  • More blooms and/or plants blooming earlier
  • Sturdier stocks and/or more extensive root systems
  • Greater resilience in stressful growing environments
  • More yield per plant, larger fruit/flowers and enhanced flavor and aroma

Once your turmeric is grown, add a little bit of one of our three Willard Water® concentrates to a liquid to help your body absorb the maximum number of vitamins and nutrients. After all, cellular testing shows that our patented and proven formula helps with both the absorption and utilization of turmeric, while also removing more waste from your system!
